What SkinPen® Precision is.
SkinPen® Precision is the world’s first FDA-approved microneedling system from the American company Crown Aesthetics (Crown Laboratories, Dallas). The device received its first FDA approval in 2018 for the treatment of facial acne scars, and a second FDA approval in 2021 for neck wrinkles.
SkinPen® uses fine microneedles controlled, uniform micro-channels into the dermis. These controlled micro-injuries trigger a natural repair process from: Fibroblasts are activated, new Collagen and elastin is formed — the skin becomes firmer, smoother and more even from the inside out. The procedure is minimally invasive, requires no heat or chemicals and can be used on all skin types all year round. We follow the the original SkinPen® protocol by Crown Aesthetics — with Gel without active ingredients during the needling treatment. During the procedure, we deliberately do not use vitamin C, retinol or hyaluronic acid serum in order to avoid unnecessary irritation or adverse reactions. Skin analysis and treatment plan.
A brief discussion about your skin type, your skincare goals (acne scars, pores, neck wrinkles, skin texture) and any previous treatments. Together, we decide whether SkinPen® is the right choice — and how it fits into a longer-term plan, often involving a preparatory exfoliation phase. For first-time clients, we recommend the free AURA 3D skin analysis beforehand to create a personalised plan.
Original SkinPen® protocol using gel without active ingredients.
The skin is cleansed. The SkinPen® device is done using the the original gel without active ingredients across the treatment areas — forehead, cheeks, jawline, neck (depending on the treatment plan). The depth of penetration is adjusted for each area — precisely, controlled, and evenly. You can feel the treatment; it is easily achievable and quick. Followed by individually tailored Mask, Dermalux™ LED phototherapy and SPF 50.
You’ll go home with the SkinPen® care kit.
You leave the clinic with the Post-treatment care from the SkinPen® kit — this is included in the original treatment plan and is part of the cost of your treatment. Typically, Redness similar to that caused by a mild sunburn, possibly slight swelling. Many customers find that after 24–48 hours back to normal. You may experience slight dryness or flaking in the days that follow. Avoid saunas, steam rooms and strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours, no harsh ingredients, gentle care, SPF 50 every day. The first improvements become visible after 2–3 weeks, and the full results develop over 3–6 months on.

How much does SkinPen® cost at alestetics®? +
The SkinPen® treatment for the A facial costs CHF 300 — including SkinPen® Kit with post-treatment care to take home, a customised mask, Dermalux™ LED phototherapy and a head massage. Add-ons: Neck CHF 50, Decolletage CHF 100.
In the Standard Commitment Plan You’ll receive 5 sessions for CHF 1,200 (you pay for 4, the 5th is included) — choose between SkinPen®, Exilis® and NCTF®. At each appointment, we’ll decide together which treatment will benefit your skin the most.
How many sessions will I need? +
That depends on your Skin requirements and protocol For acne scars, we typically plan a course of treatments, as scars require time to heal. When it comes to skin quality, pores and texture, we often work in a course of treatments spread over several months.
We define the exact rhythm based on AURA 3D Skin Analysis and skin reactions — to ensure predictable and safe results. According to Crown Aesthetics, results for acne scars can be up to 6 months detectable following the course of treatment.
What is the difference between this and Vivace® RF microneedling? +
Both are microneedling treatments offered by alestetics®, each with different strengths:
- SkinPen®: Mechanical microneedling without RF energy. The the world's first FDA-certified microneedling system — with FDA approval for acne scars and neck wrinkles. Ideal for structural skin improvement, backed by documented clinical evidence.
- Vivace® RF Microneedling: Combines microneedling with Radiofrequency energy. Gentler and with less downtime, ideal for pre-ageing and improving overall skin quality.
We’ll determine which treatment is best suited to you during the AURA 3D skin analysis — based on your skincare goals and the desired depth of treatment. The two treatments are not carried out in the same session (they are spaced two weeks apart).
Why don't you use a numbing cream? +
We are doing without deliberately using numbing cream for three reasons:
- Time ratio: Preparing for anaesthesia often takes longer than the treatment itself — SkinPen® works very quickly.
- Comfort through the transfer of active ingredients: The transdermal delivery of certain active ingredients via large-area anaesthesia can be unpleasant for some clients (e.g. a „dizzy" feeling).
- A natural process: We prefer to let the skin’s natural healing process take its course — without any pharmacological intervention prior to treatment.
Most female customers find the treatment quite feasible: noticeable, but brief. With professional equipment, comfort remains high.
Which serums are used during microneedling? +
We follow the the original SkinPen® protocol by Crown Aesthetics: During the needling treatment, we use the gel without active ingredients.
Many customers ask for vitamin C, retinol or hyaluronic acid serums during microneedling — that’s what we do deliberately not as a matter of routine, to avoid unnecessary irritation or adverse reactions. We deliver active ingredients such as NCTF® or Dermadrop precisely where they are needed — either before or after the needling treatment, at exactly the right moment.
How much downtime do I have? +
A typical example is Redness similar to that caused by a mild sunburn and possibly some slight swelling. Many customers find that after 24–48 hours back to looking presentable — depending on the intensity of the treatment, your skin type and your skincare routine. You may experience slight dryness or fine flaking in the days following the treatment.
With the Post-treatment care from the SkinPen® kit We actively support you through the recovery phase — you won’t go home empty-handed, but with the right aftercare products.
Is SkinPen® suitable for all skin tones? +
Generally speaking, yes — SkinPen® is suitable for many skin types, provided that the depth, technique and aftercare are chosen correctly. A professional treatment plan (including consistent use of SPF) is particularly important for skin that is sensitive to pigmentation, in order to minimise the risk of irritation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).
Crown Aesthetics has over 90 validation studies performed — the treatment is clinically proven for all Fitzpatrick skin types for the treatment of acne scars on the face and for skin types II–IV for neck wrinkles.
What does FDA approval mean — and why is it important? +
The FDA approval (Food and Drug Administration, USA) is one of the most stringent regulatory hurdles for medical devices worldwide. It is only granted following extensive clinical trials, which Safety and efficacy demonstrate efficacy for a specific indication.
SkinPen® Precision was The world’s first microneedling device in 2018, which has cleared this FDA hurdle — for the treatment of facial acne scars. A second FDA approval followed in 2021 for neck wrinkles. This makes SkinPen® the the only microneedling system with two FDA indications.

SkinPen® is not suitable for:
- Active herpes infection or skin infections in the treatment area
- Open wounds, acute acne flare-ups or fresh sunburn

- Uncontrolled wound-healing disorders or a tendency to develop keloids
- Isotretinoin treatment (Roaccutane) — a 6-month interval is recommended
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
