I can't shave my back myself – what now?

In men, new hair can appear on the back and shoulders with age – a touch-up 1–2 times a year is then enough. That's biology, not a failed treatment.

Does laser hurt on the back, intimate area or beard?

Thanks to CrystalFreeze™ sapphire cooling at a constant 5 °C, the treatment is well tolerated. You feel short pulses, similar to a warm pinch. More sensitive zones such as the beard line (straight neckline), intimate area, buttock crease or underarms are felt more than the back or legs – but much less than waxing. We follow a clear protocol and adjust the intensity to your reaction. You give feedback throughout the session and we adjust immediately.

Can I have laser treatment as a man with tattoos?

Tattoos directly in the treatment area are a contraindication – the tattoo pigment absorbs the laser energy, which can burn or alter the tattoo. We treat around tattoos with a safety margin of about 2 cm. For large tattoos (e.g. a back piece or sleeve), laser hair removal isn't possible in that zone. We'll tell you honestly in the free consultation – sometimes treating the tattoo-free areas is still worth it.

Is laser suitable for dark skin types (Fitzpatrick V–VI)?

Yes – Primelase® with its 810 nm diode is suitable for Fitzpatrick skin types I to VI, including very dark skin tones. The CrystalFreeze™ sapphire cooling at a constant 5 °C reliably protects the skin surface against hyperpigmentation. For skin types V–VI, we start with adjusted settings and often a patch test to assess the reaction. We have experience with all skin types and discuss individual risks openly in the consultation.

Does laser work on blond, grey or red hair?

The effect is reduced on very light, grey or red hair. The laser targets the melanin (pigment) in the hair – the darker the hair, the more efficiently the energy is absorbed. In blond, light blond, white or grey hair this pigment is largely missing, so the treatment is less effective. On dark blond, brown or black hair, Primelase® is very effective – we'll assess your hair colour honestly in the free consultation.

How discreet is the treatment – especially in intimate zones?

Discretion is standard for us, not an extra. Our clinic at Konradstrasse 1 is on the first floor, with no shop window to the street – nobody sees who comes or goes. Treatment rooms are closed, and we communicate clearly and matter-of-factly, without unnecessary comments. In intimate zones such as the buttock crease and intimate area, the procedure is standardised and respectful – we do this every day, it's routine for us. What can I do about razor bumps and ingrown beard hairs?

Pseudofolliculitis barbae (razor bumps caused by ingrown beard hairs) is one of the most common reasons men come to us. The principle is simple: where no hair grows, no hair can grow back into the skin. Laser addresses the cause for good. If you keep your beard, we only treat the problem zones – usually the neckline and lower cheeks. If you want it completely smooth, we laser the whole beard area. After 6–10 sessions the razor bumps are usually gone. For many men, this ends years of skin problems.

When is laser hair removal not possible for men?

Laser is not possible with:Active infections or herpes in the treatment area. Skin cancer or suspicious skin changes in the treatment zone. Tattoos directly in the treatment area (the pigments react to the laser). Photosensitising medication (some antibiotics, antidepressants). Isotretinoin / Roaccutane therapy (at least 6 months after finishing). Freshly tanned or sunburnt skin (at least 4 weeks' gap). On very light, grey or red hair the effect is reduced. Slight redness may occur, but this will subside within a few hours. Avoid heat and saunas for 48 hours.

Shedding

The treated hairs will fall out 1–3 weeks after the session. This is normal.

After 4–6 weeks. We’ll adjust the intervals based on your response and your hair growth cycle.

Realistic expectation: For the back, chest and abdomen, 6–10 sessions for 80–90 % permanent reduction is usually realistic; in the beard and neck, due to the dense hair, more sessions are often needed.
