• What is Primelase® and why does alestetics® use this laser?

  Primelase® is a high-performance diode laser manufactured by the Spanish company Cocoon Medical / Sinclair with a wavelength of 810 nm — the scientifically recognised wavelength for laser hair removal. Compared to IPL or older diode systems, Primelase® has a significantly higher Peak power, a larger spot size (more efficient on large areas such as the back or legs) and the integrated CrystalFreeze™ sapphire contact cooling system at a constant 5°C. This makes the treatment faster, more effective and well tolerated — even on sensitive areas such as the bikini line, face or intimate areas. At alestetics®, we use Primelase® because it is the only device on the market that offers this combination of performance, safety and comfort.
• How many sessions are realistically needed to achieve a lasting reduction?

  For 80–90% permanent reduction are usually 5–10 sessions required — the exact number depends on the area, hair colour, skin type and hormonal status. At large areas such as the legs or back usually 6–10 sessions, at Bikini line, underarms and face usually 5–8 sessions. The first 3 sessions take place at 4-week intervals, followed by sessions at intervals tailored to the individual — usually 5–6 weeks apart, and later up to 8 weeks apart. Some clients also need Maintenance 1–2 times a year, because hair follicles go through different growth phases. That’s just biology, not a treatment error. Consistency is key here: if you complete the 5-step plan, you’ll see the results — but if you wax or pluck in between, you’ll have to start all over again.
• Is Primelase® suitable for all skin and hair types?

  Yes — Primelase® is an 810 nm diode laser for Fitzpatrick skin types I to VI suitable, including for darker skin tones. The CrystalFreeze™ Sapphire Cooling At a constant 5°C, it provides reliable protection for the skin’s surface. At very dark skin or sensitive skin, we start with a Patch test, in order to assess the individual response and tailor the settings accordingly. restriction: The treatment is less effective on very light, grey or red hair, as the laser works by targeting the melanin (colour pigment) in the hair. Primelase® is very effective on dark blonde, brown or black hair.
• Does laser hair removal hurt?

  Thanks to the CrystalFreeze™ sapphire contact cooling at 5°C The treatment is well tolerated. You will feel brief pulses, similar to a warm twinge or a slight tingling sensation. More sensitive areas Areas such as the bikini line, intimate areas, underarms or the beard are more sensitive than larger, less sensitive areas such as the thighs or back — but significantly less so than waxing. We communicate actively throughout the entire session: You give feedback, and we adjust the intensity on an ongoing basis. With very sensitive clients, we can start at a slightly lower intensity and gradually increase it.
• How much does laser hair removal cost at alestetics® in Zurich?

  At alestetics®, the Individual prices per session depending on the zone, at CHF 100–200 for women, CHF 100–200 for men. Legs (thighs or lower legs) cost CHF 200; large areas such as the back, chest, stomach and shoulders for men cost CHF 150; medium-sized areas such as the bikini line, underarms, upper lip or chin cost CHF 100. In the Multi-Zone Package you pay as an investment in the course of treatment: 3 zones CHF 300, 4 zones CHF 350, 5 zones CHF 400. • What do I need to bear in mind before and after a treatment?

  Before treatment:

  • Treatment area Shave 24 hours beforehand (ideally)
  • Do not wax or pluck in the 4 weeks prior — the hair root must be preserved
  • No prolonged exposure to the sun or self-tanning products 2 weeks before the session
  • On the day of the treatment: no lotion, no deodorant, no oils on the area

  After treatment:

  • 48 hours: no heat (sauna, solarium, hot shower), no exercise, no swimming pool
  • 2 weeks: Sunscreen SPF 50+ on the treated area
  • 1–3 weeks: Shedding It's normal — the hair falls out naturally
  • Soothing care if required (we recommend the following)
• Does laser treatment work for hormone-related hair growth (PCOS, hirsutism)?

  Yes, the laser also works with PCOS, hirsutism and hormone-related hair growth — but with clear limitations, which we communicate honestly. In cases where the cause is hormonal, more meetings are needed than in standard cases, and the results are less stable — new hair may grow due to hormonal fluctuations. Maintenance sessions 2–4 times a year are often part of the long-term plan here. The same applies to men with hormonally-induced beard or body hair growth. We’ll discuss your individual situation and realistic expectations during the free consultation — honestly, without making promises we can’t keep.
• When is laser hair removal not an option?

  Laser treatment is not possible in the following cases:

  • Pregnancy (absolute contraindication)
  • Active infections or herpes in the treatment area
  • Skin cancer or suspicious skin changes in the treatment area
  • Tattoos right in the treatment area (Pigments react with the laser)
  • Photosensitising drugs (certain antibiotics, antidepressants)
  • Isotretinoin treatment (at least 6 months after completion)
  • Freshly tanned or sunburnt skin (at least 4 weeks apart)

  At very light, grey or red hair the effect is reduced. Patients under the age of 18 We do not generally deal with this. If you are unsure, we will clarify everything during the free consultation.
• Is Primelase® safe? What standards does alestetics® adhere to?

  Yes — Primelase® is a CE-marked medical diode laser, internationally proven and used in dermatology practices worldwide. At alestetics®, we work V-NISSG-certified professionals in accordance with medical standards and documented protocols. Our safety standards:

  • Exclusively Disposable materials (spatula, gel container, wipes)
  • Safety goggles for clients and therapists at every session
  • A thorough medical history should be taken before any initial treatment (medications, hormones, sun exposure)
  • Patch test for sensitive skin types or in cases of uncertainty regarding the reaction
  • Recording of each session in the personal treatment record
  • Ongoing feedback during treatment

• How does laser hair removal differ from IPL or waxing?

  Laser (Primelase®): Permanent hair reduction through the targeted destruction of the hair follicle using high-energy light (810 nm diode laser). 5–10 sessions for 80–90% hair reduction. An investment in a long-term solution. Suitable for all skin types (Fitzpatrick I–VI).
  
  IPL: Broad-spectrum light with lower energy levels. Less targeted, usually requires more sessions, and is less suitable for darker skin types. We do not use IPL for hair removal — we use it as the Stellar M22™ IPL for Pigment disorders and vascular conditions (another indication).
  
  Waxing: Pulls hair out at the root; it grows back after 3–6 weeks. Irritates the skin and may cause ingrown hairs and pseudofolliculitis. No permanent effect.
  
  Shaving: Cuts hair at the skin's surface, resulting in visible stubble within hours or days.
  
  If you want to reduce the effort involved in the long term and achieve smoother skin, laser treatment is the only way forward in the medium to long term.
