Microneedling is one of the most sought-after methods for firming the skin from within. Anyone looking into it quickly comes across two names: SkinPen and Dermapen. To be clear, because it's often oversimplified: both are professional, FDA-approved medical devices. What microneedling does to the skin<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Microneedling is a collagen induction therapy. Fine needles create controlled micro-injuries in the skin; the body reacts to this with repair, forming new collagen and elastin in the process. SkinPen and Dermapen \u2013 both approved medical devices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Often, more difference is claimed than actually exists. Both the SkinPen and Dermapen are professional microneedling devices for use by professionals, both work with adjustable needle depths, and both have FDA approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2018, the SkinPen was the very first microneedling device to be FDA approved \u2013 as a Class II medical device for the treatment of acne scars. In the approval study, approximately 90 percent of those treated reported an improvement in their acne scars six months after three sessions, across all skin types.FDA De Novo DEN160029<\/a>The Dermapen 4, the current device from DermapenWorld, is also FDA-approved for the treatment of acne scars. Both are therefore reputable choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What really matters: medical equipment rather than a replica<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The real risk lies not in choosing between SkinPen and Dermapen, but beneath that. Alongside genuine medical devices, there is a flood of cheap microneedling pens on the market and online, which are often referred to simply as \u201eDermapen\u00bb \u2013 even though they have nothing to do with DermapenWorld. These imitations vary greatly in terms of workmanship, needle quality, sterility and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So don\u2019t focus on the name, but on three things: a certified medical device, a sterile, single-use cartridge that cannot be reused, and administration by trained staff in a clinic. That is precisely what distinguishes a safe treatment from a risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
